Business Development Manager

Why choose Lotto? / He aha koe e kōwhiri nei i a Lotto?

Make a meaningful difference and have fun while doing it! At Lotto NZ, we’re believers in inspiring Kiwis to dream big. So, working with us means doing meaningful mahi that benefits good causes across Aotearoa. All while having a fun time along the way.

Everything we do comes back to making sure Kiwis can play Lotto NZ products in a safe way, whilst returning 100% of our profits back into our communities around Aotearoa.

Your day-to-day / Āu mahi ia te rā:

You’ll help grow and evolve Lotto NZ’s retail network, finding the right opportunities and turning them into successful new outlets. From the first conversation with a prospective retailer through to opening day and handover, you’ll connect commercial thinking with hands-on delivery to create lasting value.

You’ll focus on:

  • Finding opportunities that matter - using market, customer and network insights to target new retail locations that support our agreed growth priorities.
  • Turning potential into partnerships - building a strong pipeline, making commercially sound recommendations and negotiating with prospective retailers to bring approved opportunities to life.
  • Making new outlets a success - bringing retailers, suppliers and internal teams together so stores open ready to trade, with a smooth handover to our Retail Performance team.
  • Bringing new retail experiences to life - leading or supporting the rollout of self-service technology, new store formats and other retail initiatives.
  • Delivering responsible, sustainable growth - balancing commercial value with customer needs, operational readiness and our commitment to minimising gambling harm.

This role includes domestic travel to connect with prospective retailers and support implementation around the country.

Your team / Tō rōpū:

You’ll join our small, collaborative Retail Planning & Partnerships team, reporting to the Head of Retail Planning & Partnerships and working closely with our Retail Knowledge & Partnerships Specialist. The team brings together network planning, key retail partnerships and growth opportunities to support Lotto NZ’s retail strategy. Your part is to turn agreed growth priorities into new retail opportunities that deliver lasting value.

You’ll also work alongside our wider Retail Performance team, spanning field relationships, retail product management and operations. Your focus is on securing and establishing new opportunities, then handing them over well so our retailers have the ongoing support they need.

With a new retail operating model taking shape and opportunities to introduce new formats and technology, there’s plenty of scope to make a tangible difference.

A bit about you / He kōrero mōu:

You enjoy spotting an opportunity, building a relationship and seeing your work become something real. You combine commercial judgement with a practical approach to delivery, and you’re comfortable opening doors as well as working through the detail that makes an opportunity succeed.

You’ll bring:

  • Relevant commercial experience in business development, retail network growth, account development, property or site acquisition, retail implementation or a related field.
  • A track record of converting opportunities into results, building and progressing a pipeline from initial prospecting through to agreement.
  • Sound commercial and analytical judgement, using market insights and financial information to assess value and build clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Strong relationship and negotiation skills, bringing retailers, suppliers and internal teams together and influencing without direct authority.
  • Practical implementation experience, coordinating multiple priorities, resolving issues and keeping delivery on track through to operational handover.

You’ll also bring a thoughtful approach to growth, balancing commercial opportunities with responsible gambling, compliance and safe, workable retail outcomes.

A current, clean New Zealand driver licence is required, as a vehicle is provided for this role as a tool of the trade.
