Your day-to-day:

At Lotto NZ, every role is a winning one — and as Junior Legal Counsel, you’ll be right at the heart of it. You’ll provide smart, practical legal advice that helps us deliver on our purpose while keeping things compliant and risk aware. Your work will be varied, meaningful, and full of impact. You’ll:

  • Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and help manage them through their lifecycle.
  • Advise on promotions, terms and conditions and marketing materials to ensure they’re legally sound and consumer friendly.
  • Support compliance with key legislation such as the Gambling Act and Crown Entities Act.
  • Provide legal input into privacy processes, customer queries and harm minimisation initiatives.
  • Guide procurement activities in line with Government Procurement Rules.
  • Help protect Lotto NZ’s intellectual property and support our retail network with legal advice.
  • Deliver legal training, maintain contract templates and drive continuous improvement across legal and procurement practices.

This is a hands-on role where your legal know-how will help Lotto NZ operated responsibly, ethically and effectively - all while making a difference.

A bit about you:

You’re a confident legal professional who’s ready to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. You enjoy solving problems, collaborating across teams, and turning complex legal concepts into clear, practical advice. You’ll bring:

  • An LLB and admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
  • 2-4 years’ post-admission experience in a commercial legal environment.
  • Strong knowledge of NZ Contract and Consumer Law.
  • Excellent communication skills – written, verbal and professional.
  • Sharp analytical thinking and a clear approach to risk and compliance.
